Damir Žarko - Biography

Damir Žarko was born in Zagreb, Croatia on September 28, 1972. He received his B.S. degree from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in 1995 in the field of electrical machines and automation. Since graduation he has been employed as an Assistant at the Department of Electrical Machines, Drives and Automation where his curricular activities have been related to the field of electrical machines. In 1996 he enrolled in graduate study at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. He received his M.S. degree in March, 1999. During graduate study he was a researcher in the project "Electrical Machines and Drives for Optimal Energy Conversion" funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology. He pursued his Ph.D. degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA where he graduated in September 2004. From 2001 till 2002 he participated as a researcher in the project ''Linear Synchronous Motor for Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System'' funded by the Office of Naval Research, USA. From 2002 till 2004 he was a researcher in the project ''Design and Test of a Variable Speed Wind Turbine System Employing a Direct Drive Axial Flux Synchronous Generator'' funded by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, USA.d His research activities have been related to the design, numerical analysis and optimization of electrical machines for various applications in industry. He is the author and coauthor of several papers published in scientific journals and proceedings of international and domestic conferences. He has an excellent knowledge of English language and can also speak German. He is a member of IEEE and the Croatian National Committee of CIGRÉ.
