Boris Mikšić - Biography

Boris Miksic was born in on October 11th, 1948, in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated at the Zagreb University, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in 1973. After that he went to the United States. Starting as an engineer in Research and Development at Northern Instrument Corporation in Minneapolis soon he advanced to the position of vicepresident of Research and Development. In 1977 he started his own company, Cortec Corporation, of which he is still president. Building his career, simultaneously he finished post-graduate research at the School of Materials Science of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Minnesota, and mini-masters degree in manufactoring systems engineering, University of St. Thomas, St.Paul, 1991. He is owner of over 20 patents in the US, Canada, France and Japan. His bibliography holds over 100 scientific papers and he is co-author of 3 books on technology. As an world businessman of great reputation he was president of many international and scientific conferences and he is a member and official of many professional organisations. He was Ernst & Young's entrepreneur of the year 2000 for Minnesota and Dakota. Boris Miksic is active in building of Croatian economy, and for distinctive contribution in economy he was awarded with Order of Croatian Star with medallon of Blaz Lorkovic by president F. Tudjman (1998). In the year 1995 he was appointed honorary consul general of Croatia in the USA. Great deal of time he devotes to humanitary work and participating in many events related to promotion of Croatia in the United States and worldwide. In 1997. he was awarded with Citizens at Their Best award which was given by the Minnesota National Guard to the conscientious cityzens for their active helping to the local community. Besides that he got the Life Work Award by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.
