U poduzeću radio do kraja lipnja 1983.g.

1956.g. položio državni stručni ispit iz hortikulture. 1959.g. upisan u knjigu ovlaštenih projektanata u graditeljstvu za objekte vrtne arhitekture

1956.g. počeo se usporedo baviti izučavanjem povijesnih vrtova , posebno dubrovačkog klasičnog vrtnog naslijeđa. Obavio dvanaest višetjednih studijskih putovanja po Italiji i drugim europskim zemljama radi upoznavanja i izučavanja povijesnog naslijeđa vrtne umjetnosti (1961, 1964, 1966,1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1982) .

1982.g. osnovao Centar za povijesne vrtove i razvoj krajobraza u Dubrovniku, uz potporu Zavoda za ukrasno bilje, pejzažnu arhitekturu i vrtnu umjetnost (V. Jurčić) i pokroviteljstvo Agronomskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.

Kao znanstvenik registriran pod br. 85732.

1986.g. obranio doktorsku disertaciju na Agronomskom fakultetu u Zagrebu pod naslovom "Dubrovački vrt - tipološka osobitost u vrtnoj umjetnosti renesanse" (komisija: V.Jurčić, C.Fisković, D.Ogrin, E.Polak).

- vrtovi i perivoji otoka Lokruma, 19/20st. :
a) botanički vrt, izvedbeni projekt (1959/60), naručitelj: HAZU
b) projekt kategorizacije i vrednovanja vrtova (1970), naručitelj: Republički zavod za zaštitu prirode,
c) idejna rješenja uređenja povijesnih vrtova i perivoja otoka (1989) u sklopu "PUP otoka Lokruma", naručitelj: Zavod za izgradnju Dubrovnika –

- vrt vile Gučetić i Arboretum HAZU u Trstenom, 16/19. st., idejni projekt (1962/1963), naručitelj:HAZU

- vrt vile Sorkočević u Komolcu, 16.st., izvedbeni projekt (1970/1972), naručitelj: Rastauratorski zavod Hrvatske - obnova obavljana etapno: 1981,1985,1989.g.

- vrt vile Crijević-Pucić u Dubrovniku, 16/19.st., idejni projekt (1985) za internu potrebu Centra za povijesne vrtove-Dubrovnik (projekt uništen u ratu 1991.g.)

- vrt Hektorovićeva Tvrdalja u Starom Gradu na Hvaru, 16/19.st., idejni projekt u 4 varijante,glavni projekt za 3.varijantu prihvaćen od Konzervatorskog zavoda Dalmacije (1987/1988), naručitelj: Društvo "Petar Hektorović" ( matrica projekta uništena u ratu 1991.g.);

- vrt vile Bozdari-Škaprlenda u Čajkovićima, početak 18.st., idejni projekt (1989), naručitelj: Zavod za obnovu Dubrovnika (matrica projekta uništena u ratu 1991.g.);
- vrt vile Sorkočević na Lapadskoj obali u Dubrovniku iz 1521.g., glavni projekt (1993), naručitelj: Arhitektonski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu;

U izdanju Centra tiskana oba zbornika (1985. i 1990.); ur.

1990.g. prijavio i kao glavni istraživač vodio znanstveni projekt "Istraživanje povijesne vrtne zone Pile-Kono u Dubrovniku" (projekt registriran u MZT RH pod br. 4-99-165).

1997.g. obnovio rad u ratu uništenog Centra i nastavio ga voditi.

Od gradskih vlasti prihvaćeni natječajni rad za urbanističko i arhitektonsko uređenje lokaliteta Brsalje(2003.) ocijenio je neprihvatljivim i štetnim , jer ne poštuje postojanje povijesnog vrtnog predgrađa zidinama okružene srednjevjekovne jezgre Dubrovnika. Vezano uz to pružio je snažnu potporu otporu građana Dubrovnika i Društva povjesničara umjetnosti Hrvatske za odbacivanje štetnog projekta.

2007.g. uspio privremeno, a 2010.g. i trajno zaštiti izvanredno stablo orijentalnog platana (Platanus orientalis) u jednom starom vrtu na Brsaljama, blizu ulaza u utvrđeni Grad.
2009.g. izradio šest pomoćnih studija- promemorija posvećenih očuvanju dubrovačkih pejzažnih i vrtnih spomenika.

Znatniji dio radova zabilježen u Hrvatskoj znanstvenoj bibliografiji ;CROSBI ; http://www.bib.irb.hr

Kao rezultat vlastitog istraživačkog rada objavio četiri knjige:

-"Obnova dubrovačkog renesansnog vrta", IC, Split, 1981(recenzija objavljena u časopisu "Garden History", vol. 11, No.1 (spring 1983), pp. 90-92. Autor: Frank Arniel Walker, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow,);

B R U N O Š I Š I Ć- CURRICULUM VITAE

Born in Dubrovnik on June 3, 1927.
He attended primary school (1933 -1937), the Classical Grammar School
(1937-1945) and the Music School (violin, 1934-1944) in Dubrovnik. As a
secondary school student he actively participated in the anti-fascist movement on an organized basis from January 1944. In the beginning of October he joined the National Liberation Army. After being seriously wounded and upon his medical treatment in the Allies hospitals in Italy (Gravina, Trani), on his return to Dubrovnik in April 1945 until autumn he got prepared and passed the 8th grade and the school leaving exam in the Grammar School. He enrolled agriculture at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry in Zagreb in October 1945. He graduated in 1950.
In 1951/1952 as an agricultural district advisory officer was assigned to work at "Fond za mehanizaciju" (Mechanization Fund) in Stolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and later on to the firm "Rasadnik"(nursery-garden) in Dubrovnik.

He organized and professionally managed the Institution for Parks and Decorative Plants in Dubrovnik in March 1953, which was reorganized into a Communal Enterprise for Public Greenery and Horticulture "Vrtlar"- Dubrovnik in 1961. Thereupon he carried out alternating assignments as a manager or the +chief engineer. He continuously dealt with planning and designing public and other gardens and parks in the area of Dubrovnik and in the South Adriatic region. He worked in this firm until the end of June 1983.

He passed the state examination in horticulture in 1956. In 1959 he was inscribed into the Record Book of Certified Planners in civil engineering for garden architecture.
At the same time he began studying historical gardens, especially the Dubrovnik classical garden heritage since 1956. He undertook twelve several weeks study trips throughout Italy and other European countries to be able to get to know and study the historical heritage of garden architecture (1961, 1964, 1966,1967,1968, 1969, 1971, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1982).

Between 1964 and 1969 he was an acting manager of Arboretum run by HAZU (Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts) in Trsteno.

Between 1968-1971 he took up an interdepartmental postgraduate study of landscape design (Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, Biotechnological Faculty, Institute for Landscape Architecture in Ljubljana). Having defended his master thesis entitled "Restoration and Revitalization of Dubrovnik Renaissance Garden" in 1974, he became Master of Landscape Design, being the first person in this profession in ex Yugoslavia.
( Exp. Jury: D. Ogrin, E. Polak, B.Milić).
In 1982 he established the Historical Gardens and Landscape Development Centre in Dubrovnik under the auspices of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zagreb.
As a scientist in Croatia his name is registered under number 85732.
In 1986 he defended doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb under a title "The Dubrovnik Garden ; Typological Distinctiveness in Garden Art of the Renaissance".
In 1987 he was elected by the Academic Council of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zageb as a senior research associate.

Besides a number of working sketches and drawings, he made more than a hundred of garden and landscape architecture designs for public gardens and parks in Dubrovnik, for green spaces around housing and tourism developments and zones in greater Dubrovnik. Through his work in that sphere he could gain a deeper insight into the coastal and especially into the South Adriatic landscapes and thus he based his approach on designing and arranging Dubrovnik gardens and the landscapes in general.
During his work in the firm, in accordance with his free time, he was simultaneously researching into historical circumstances of the genesis of a great number of Dubrovnik Renaissance gardens, their design characteristics, as well as a number of theoretical and practical issues on their restoration. Upon establishment of the Historical Gardens and Landscape Development Centre in Dubrovnik he has become totally dedicated to this topic and has scientifically defined and explained particular specific qualities of Dubrovnik Renaissance gardens, which represent an authentic Croatian contribution to the European heritage of garden art as a historical garden layout manifestation.
In terms of historical garden heritage research he designed for restoration of several known historical gardens, such as:
- Gardens and parks on the island of Lokrum, 19/20th ct.:
a) Botanical garden, detailed design (1959/60), ordered by: HAZU
b) Project categorization and garden evaluation (1970), ordered by: Institute for Protection of Nature of the Republic of Croatia,
c) Sketch designs for historical gardens and parks of the island (1989) within the framework of "Detailed Plan of the Island of Lokrum", ordered by: Institute for Physical Planning of Dubrovnik;
- Garden of the Gučetić villa and the HAZU Arboretum in Trsteno, 16/19th ct., preliminary design (1962/1963),ordered by: HAZU;
- The Sorkočević villa garden at Komolac, 16th ct., detailed design (1970/1972), ordered by: Institute for Restoration of the Republic of Croatia - restoration carried out in phases: 1981,1985,1989
- The Crijević-Pucić villa garden in Dubrovnik, 16/19th ct., conceptual design (1985) for internal use of Historical Gardens and Landscape Development Centre in Dubrovnik (project burnt in 1991 war).
- The Hektorović's Tvrdalj garden in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, 16/19th ct., conceptual design in 4 versions, the general design for the 3rd version accepted by Conservationist Institute of Dalmatia (1987/1988), ordered by: "Petar Hektorović Society " ( design matrix burnt in 1991 war);
- the Bozdari-Škaprlenda villa garden at Čajkovići, beginning of the 18th ct., conceptual design (1989), ordered by: Institute for Restoration of Dubrovnik (project matrix burnt in 1991 war);
- The Sorkočević villa garden ,1521, on Lapad coast in Dubrovnik, general design (1993), ordered by: Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb;
- The Crijević-Pucić villa garden in Dubrovnik, 16/19th ct. detailed design (2005/2006), ordered by: The Chancellor's Office of the University of Dubrovnik- realized in 2006/2007
For the first time he made a presentation on Dubrovnik Renaissance gardens to the international expert community at ICOMOS-IFLA scientific conference in former Czechoslovakia (Kromeriž) in 1977.

He also organized the first symposia on historical heritage of garden art in these parts through the Historical Gardens and Landscape Development Centre Dubrovnik (Dubrovnik, 1983, Varaždin, 1986). Both conference proceedings were published by the Centre (1985,1990; editor V. Jurčić).
During the shelling of Dubrovnik in December, 1991 the Historical Gardens and Landscape Development Centre in Dubrovnik located in the Centre for Postgraduate Studies building was entirely gutted along with its entire documents and assets.
In the period from October until December 1994 he organized the 500th Anniversary Celebration of the establishment of the oldest existing Dubrovnik Renaissance garden Gučetić/Gotius/Gozze in Trsteno near Dubrovnik .On the occasion he organized a number of expert lectures; prof. Vicenzo Cazzato, a renowned Italian expert in garden art, participated as well.

In 1990 he applied and pursued activities on the approved ‘’Research project into the historical garden zone Pile-Kono in Dubrovnik ( Project registered at the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia no. 4-99-165).He proceeded his research work in 1993 upon the attacks against Dubrovnik . His paper was presented at the 33rd World Congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architects-IFLA in Florence in 1996. He has determined that the subject matter was an exquisite urban historical garden suburb originating in the Renaissance, and as such, unique in the southeast Europe and exceptionally rare in the Mediterranean area.He has been systematically engaged in research of historical garden suburb of Dubrovnik i.e.: Pile with a part of Kono (the paper was presented at the 33rd World Congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architects-IFLA in Florence in 1996). In the main layout guidelines that space assumed its pattern in the period from the 15th until 18th centuries and is exemplified by a specific garden urban planning. It represents an exquisite spatial, design, cultural and historical phenomenon, not only within the territory of Croatia.
The Historical Gardens and Landscape Development Centre resumed its activity in 1997 under his leadership.
He evaluated the approved competition work by the City for urban and architectural development of a locality named Brsalje (2003) unacceptable and harmful since it did not respect the phenomenon of the historical garden suburb of the medieval City of Dubrovnik. He also offered a strong support to the resistance mounted by the citizens of Dubrovnik and the Society of Art Historians of Croatia to reject this harmful project.
It was in 2007 that he achieved a temporary, and later on in 2010 a permanent protection of the outstanding plane-tree ( Platanus orientalis) growing in an old garden at Brsalje, in front of the walled city entrance.

In 2009 he made six studies- aide memoires dedicated to the preservation of landscape and garden monuments of Dubrovnik. He completed a study with his associates aiming at permanent protection of four monuments of garden architecture on the island of Šipan (1445, 1516, 1546 and the second half of the 16th century) to ensure protection of buildings on the same site and offer a permanent insight into the development of garden art in the period of "The Golden Age of Dubrovnik".

In his written works he made public aprox. hundred expert and scientific papers and studies in the field of landscape design, protection, research into the historical gardens and historical garden urban planning. A number of his papers are entered in Croatian scientific bibliography "CROSBI" ( http://www.bib.irb.hr )
As a result he had his own research work published in four books:
- "Obnova dubrovačkog renesansnog vrta", IC, Split, 1981; ( review published in The Garden History periodical, vol. 11, No.1 (spring 1983).pp. 90-92, in English. Author: Frank Arniel Walker, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow
